In 2005 MAYC celebrated
its 60th anniversary with three events, one of which – 6:T
Intense took place at Cliff College, and on which the new style
Breakout is
based. Below is the report from the Intense Event:
6:T Intense
Following on from the fantastic party, Invest, which started the
6:T celebrations in May, over 600 young people and youth leaders
gathered
at Cliff College for Intense, last weekend. Some pitched tents;
some enjoyed the luxury of a bed – but all joined in on
the journey, which will culminate at Inspire at Truro in September.
MAYC’s
6:T Coordinator, David Goodall, brought together a large team
of committed and hardworking volunteers to make yet another successful
weekend
for MAYC. David said, ‘it wouldn’t be possible to
give these young people the experience they’ve had without
the commitment of the planning group throughout the year and the
many
volunteers
who came on the weekend itself, willing to do whatever is needed.’
A
huge Big Top was the focal point for many of the activities
that started with a Welcome on Friday night led by the band M1
and Revd
Robert Lewis. Revd Tom Stuckey spoke to the crowds and young
people asked the President of Conference a wide range of questions.
Did
you know Tom’s favourite flavour of crisps is cheese and
onion?!
Saturday and Sunday morning started with a range of Insight
Groups giving opportunities: - to get intense with the bible
and explore
the next steps of the journey, – to invest energy into
crazy, fun stuff, – to get inspired and creative with
large scale drama, junk music and art.
On Saturday afternoon
there was an MAYC Country Fayre led by Malcolm Cullum and
a large team of volunteers. Activities
included
inflatable,
tugs of war, human sheep dog trials, sports events, ice
creams and much more for everyone to enjoy in the glorious weather
and setting
of Cliff College.
On Saturday night ‘6:T in the Park’ was
an extravaganza of talent provided by some superb dance
groups, a talented band with
stunning soloists from the MAYC Orchestra and Singers and
the MAYC Orchestra & Singers themselves. The evening
took the audience through a journey of the six decades of
MAYC and was hosted by Lisa
Holland and Kevin Jones, MAYC Youth President Elect. The
late night concert was the fantastic band ‘29th Chapter’ and
Cliff Hall provided a great indoor space for young people
to have fun,
with Play Stations, a DJ, games live music and a movie until
midnight each
night.
Other fringe activities on offer were – a Prayer
room prepared by Revd Micky Youngson focusing on ‘Pray
without Ceasing’,
6 chances to participate in communion, a cyber space café, ‘Big
Shout’ for young people to say what they think about
the church and world, a special tree planting to celebrate
60 years, a walk
up the edge following the bible passages on route to see
the fantastic view and of course the MAYC 6:T archive exhibition.
The evening finished with the World Action Vigil reminding
us of the need to ‘Make Poverty History.’
On
Sunday morning everybody joined together to journey on a
march from the football field to the Big Top for the final
act
of worship,
which was lead by the MAYC Orchestra and Singers and the
band ‘b4u’.
Young people lead prayers for places they had visited across
the world and special prayers were said for those affected
by the London
bombings.
Rev Phil Summers led over 100 young people in a dramatic
presentation on theme and the atmosphere in the Big Top
was intimate and intense
as was the heat!
Rachel Appleyard challenged the crowds to ‘invest in a journey
with God, get intense in an experience with God and get
inspired to ‘press
on towards the goal’ as set out in Philippians 3 verses12-14.
Then
the goodbyes, everybody elated – Inspired to
face the rest of our journey into the future. |
